Contribution

We live in a world where at times our sensitivity, decency and compassion are lost in the traffic of life. OpenGate’s Human Contribution program is committed to partnering with various charities. Our goal is to enrich the lives of the people in various societies and cultures. Some of our favorite charities are listed below.

XPRIZE

XPRIZE is a non-profit organization that designs and manages public competitions intended to encourage technological development that could benefit mankind. Their Board of Trustees include Elon Musk, James Cameron, Larry Page, Arianna Huffington, among others. The XPRIZE mission is to bring about “radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity” through incentivized competition. It fosters high-profile competitions that motivate individuals, companies and organizations across all disciplines to develop innovative ideas and technologies that help solve the grand challenges that restrict humanity’s progress.

Kiva

Kiva provides loans that change lives. The organization provides a way for first world lenders to link with developing-world entrepreneurs, be they Peruvian farmers, Afghan basket weavers, or even Ugandan liquor store owners. The loans enable entrepreneurs in the developing world to lift themselves out of poverty. First, Kiva’s microfinance partners distribute the loan funds. Also, the Kiva partners often provide training and other assistance to maximize the entrepreneur’s chances of success. Then the loan is typically repaid and then redistributed by the lender.

Children’s Cancer Research Fund

Children’s Cancer Research Fund makes medical history and eradicates childhood cancer, the leading cause of death by illness among children. The fund is on the forefront of pioneering research at the University of Minnesota Cancer, revolutionizing cancer treatment worldwide. The organization also educates the public about the disease and provides quality of life programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families. When the research Fund began its work over twenty years ago, survival rates for children diagnosed with cancer were about fifty percent. Today, there has been tremendous success, and nearly eighty percent of children diagnosed with cancer survive the disease!

The Smile Train

Smile Train is the world’s leading cleft charity that provides surgeries for children. Cleft lips and palates are a major problem in developing countries where there are millions of children who are suffering with un-repaired clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly, and are not allowed to attend school or hold a job. They face very difficult lives filled with shame and isolation, pain and heartache. The good news is every single child with a cleft can be helped with surgery that costs as little as $250 and takes as little as 45 minutes. Since March of 2000, Smile Train has provided cleft surgery for 308,447 children, and with contributions, will continue to provide many more! Smile Train gives desperate children new smiles and hope.
